"Awalla" the boko haram system of funding exposed!

The boko haram has been troubling Nigerians of late and subsequent investigation to unravel how they operate and even get funding is proving to be a mistry. But recently it is been discovered that the boko haram has adopted the "Awalla system of money transfer". The Nigerian governmet is not leaving anything to chance as it has adopted every means of investigating this terrorist organisation and its finances is one of them. The Awalla system is a means of moneytary transfer that is widely used in the middle east like Saudi Arabia, the system works like this somebody in saudi arabia that wants to send money to its associates here in Nigeria will only pay the equivalent of the money in Saudi Arabia while the other will receive the equivalent from any other business associate here in Nigeria, meaning there is no form of banking transaction and it is not documented for anybody to trace!.
The Boko Haram has adopted this form of monetary and it is hard to trace it. Even the dreaded Osama Bin Laden used this form of transaction which was hard for the American Government to trace.
But from close sources the Nigerian government knows that there are alot disgruntled politicians who want to cause disharmony and unrest in the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Bomb blast at ECWA church in Niger State Again

TWENTY- four hours after the blast that claimed four lives and injured others at All Christian Fellowship Mission Church, Suleja, another blast exploded, at Ecwa Church in Madalla town, near Suleja was also blown again.
The blast exploded at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, on the day the Acting Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, led a government delegation and security agents to Suleja to assess the incident.
The bomb exploded near the fence of the Ecwa Church, Madalla, shortly after an unknown man was sighted by a woman near the fence.
Shortly after, residents of the area attempted to interrogate the man, but he ran away, after which the bomb exploded. It was gathered that the explosive was planted in the fence of the church.
No life was, however, lost while there were also no casualties except for the serious panic which the blast caused in the area. Shop owners closed immediately after the blast.
The state Police Command Spokesman, ASP Richard Oguche, confirmed the story, adding that the explosive must have been buried close to the church.
Oguche said no life was lost in the incident.

Cultism in University of Ado Ekiti

The University of Ado Ekiti (UNAD) was thrown into pandemonium last Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, when members of rival cults engaged themselves in a gun duel that interrupted the ongoing first semester examinations. recounting the incident and reporting the anger among various stakeholders in the institution over poor security and other issues.
The peace that had reigned for sometime at the University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was last Tuesday night, shattered when two cultist groups were engaged in a gun duel.
The duel sent both students and staff of the university scampering for safety, with some getting injured in the process as gunshots rented the air for almost an hour.
Students were seen in groups discussing their security fears and the fate of the examinations billed to take place that day. They had earlier left the Omolayo Administrative Building where they had thronged to catch a glimpse of a trio of suspected cult members arrested by the University Cadets Peace Corps.
When many of the students kicked over what they saw as insensitivity on the part of the university authorities, which had insisted that examinations must continue as scheduled the morning after the violence, their leaders addressed them in an emergency congress at the Students Union Building (SUB).
President of UNADSU, Mr. Olalekan Shittu, told the students that they were not going to write examinations, at least on Wednesday, because many students were unsettled following the fearful event of Tuesday night. “We have made it clear to the authorities that students are yet to come out of the trauma of the cultists’ clash.” He wondered what would be the fate of the undisclosed number of innocent students he said were injured in the fracas. “Innocent students should not be made to suffer for what they know nothing about,” Shittu submitted.
The Registrar of the institution, Dr. Omojola Awosusi, had maintained on Wednesday in a telephone interview with journalists that the university had not postponed the examinations, and insisted that the first semester examinations would continue on Thursday.
It was gathered from students who wished not to be named that the first gunshot was heard at about 7:42 pm on Tuesday. They alleged that a member of the Eiye Confraternity was brutalised by members of Black Axe earlier in the day over what none of them could place hands on and the former group took their revenge late in the evening. “The unfortunate thing is that we have been without electricity for a while and most students studying for the ongoing examinations leave their residences at Satellite and Osekita areas for where there is electricity. So, when the shooting began, we scampered in various directions in the darkness and many of us were seriously injured in the process,” they stated.
“One female student fainted when the sporadic shooting would not stop. She was taken to their home in town. It was only this morning that those who fell in an uncompleted soak-away pit when they were running in the darkness were helped out of the huge hole. Some of them have fractures but all of them have injuries,” the students recounted. They said those found in the uncompleted septic tank were six female and four male students.
They also alleged that an unnamed member of the student cadet corps, who form an integral part of the security system of the institution, was attacked by the cultists with machetes and was seriously injured.
The Commanding Officer of the Campus Cadets, Mr. Babafemi Dahunsi confirmed that a member of his corps was attacked with machete by the gang members but chose not to name him and the hospital where he said he was receiving treatment. “You know, I still cannot say why he was attacked. So, I’d like to keep the name of the hospital and where it is for his security,” Dahunsi stated. On the number of those injured, he said he had no figure, adding “I can’t even imagine what might have happened among the cultists and I’m sure they would keep their members away, dead or alive, at all costs.”
Dahunsi said those that were arrested by the cadet corps and paraded were cultists. “One of them was carrying a double barrel gun, one had a shot gun while the third one was carrying bullets for the guns,” he alleged. To forestall further attack on members of his corps, he said “we now move together and stay together because if those guys could go on a shooting spree for about 45 minutes without hindrance, then anything can happen.
There is presence of armed plain clothed security personnel on the campus on Wednesday. However, on enquiry, the students lamented that when policemen eventually arrived in the campus, “they started shooting right from the gate which is far away from the scene of the incident.” They queried, “Is that not a signal to the gangs that they had arrived and that they should run away?”
The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State police command, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh, when asked about the incident, said two of the gang members were arrested by men of the command, pointing out that the situation had been contained while investigations were on. The students however said that they handed over the three men they arrested to the State Security Service (SSS).
But the worries of the majority of the students were not over whether arrests could be made or not. They are afraid of what comes after they had reported crimes and sundry acts and such suspects were taken away. “Our major fear is sustained insecurity on the campus and the non-challance of the relevant authorities,” some of the students stated.
“We know those causing problems on the campus. They are our neighbours, classmates, friends and are in our faculties, departments and so on. But when we report them to the authorities, the next few days, they’re back on campus. They even come to you with renewed threats and say things like: ‘so you went and reported me?” the students lamented.
According to them, “there are almost daily occurrences of robberies, especially of mobile phones and other handy property. People will just corner you somewhere and take away your property under the threat of knives and other arms.”
Christians in the university have, however, taken the battle to the spiritual realm, seeking the face of God in all that concern them and the institution. The largest fellowship in UNAD, the University Christian Association Ado Ekiti (UCAAD), led by Pastor Isaac Adubazi, even staged a peaceful march round the university same Wednesday to create awareness on the state of insecurity. Transportation and other activities were disrupted all through the one hour the march lasted.
The return of deadly gangs has thrown light on many other issues bedevilling the university. Students said the last time they witnessed cultists’ war was in 2007 and wondered what had gone wrong. However, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Olubunmi Ajibade, said he was sure that normalcy had returned to the university.

University of Maiduguri shut down as resident flee on Bomb threat by Boko Haram

The University of Maiduguri was yesterday closed down indefinitely following alleged threats by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the institution.

The decision to shut down the university, according to its Head of Information and Public Affairs, Ahmed Mohammed, was taken by the authorities after an emergency meeting of the Committee of Provost and Deans yesterday.

Mohammed said the meeting reviewed the worsening security situation in Maiduguri, purported threats by the Boko Haram to target facilities on the campus as well as mounting tension among students and staff of the institution, maintaining that “the authorities had no other option than to shut down the university for now.”

Explaining further, the university spokeman disclosed that a circular has been issued to that effect, adding, “students are already checking out of their hostels. This is the best we can do now in the face of the security challenge we found ourselves in Borno and we don’t want to take any chance.”
He hinted that the authorities would review the closing directive “by the time they realize there is a reasonable improvement in the security situation.”

Daily Sun could not obtain a copy of the circular as at the time of filing this report yesterday night.
But the spokes person of the Joint Task Force (JTF) has described the hasty closure of the university as “un necessary panic, nothing that “we had earlier visited the institution to re-assure them of their security.”

The force operation officer, Colonel Victor Ebhaleme, who spoke on behalf of the JTF, said there was no need to heighten tension with the closure, adding that their men were already in control of the situation.
Meanwhile more residents fled the state yeaterday as most of the motor parks in the metropolis witnessed influx of passengers to different parts of the country.

FG doubles Allowance for National Youth Service Corps

Youth corps members are now to receive N19, 800.00 as allowance with effect from March 2011, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maharazu Tsiga, has announced.
Mr. Tsiga made this known in Abuja on Monday during a visit by a team from Barry University, Miami, Florida and Africans in Diaspora Partnership.
The NYSC members were receiving N9, 775.00 before now, and President Goodluck Jonathan had in his 2010 campaign tour, promised the increase.
According to Mr. Tsiga, the allowance of the NYSC members will be paid in arrears, to include the 2010 Batch ‘B' members, who finished their service year on July 7.
Mr. Tsiga expressed his happiness with President Goodluck Jonathan, for considering the plight of the corps members, stating that the scheme would work hard to realise its objective.
He also expressed satisfaction with the visit of the team, stating that it was timely, as seven youth corps members were successful in the Entrepreneurs competition organised by the Africans in Diaspora Partnership.
"I can assure you that the resources expended in the training and empowerment of the seven entrepreneurs has not been wasted since all of them are doing very well.
"Indeed, we see in them great potentials for wealth and job creation in the near future, that is why we are looking forward to greater and expanded opportunities for more corps members as talents abound in the scheme,'' Mr. Tsiga said.
He said that the contribution of NYSC members underscored national relevance of the scheme, adding that the scheme would ensure that the gains were not lost to the threat of post-service unemployment.
According to him, the agencies which partnered with the scheme on skills acquisition are the Central Bank of Nigeria, National Directorate of Employment and the MDGs Office.
Earlier, Adewale Alonge, leader of the delegation, had praised the scheme for its foresight and readiness to ensure that NYSC members were well equipped to stand on their feet, without looking for government employment after the scheme.
"Nigeria is a great country but we always hear the bad news and there are people in this country that are doing great things and that is why we still believe in the country.
"We believe with every single cell in our body in the future of this great country, and the whole world and Africans in Diaspora look up to Nigeria as a leader and we cannot afford to fail them.

NYSC should it be scraped

The Nigerian National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme has come a long way since its inception in the 70s. But due to some of some problems that we are are witnessin more and more people even in government are calling for the scrappin of the programme.
Prominent among some of the recent problems is the brutal killing of some of the corp members serving in the northern part of the country during the elections. One noticeable in-justice done by NYSC itself was the organisation not honouring the corp members by simply putting their faces on their website for remebrance purposes even if it is for some time, but none was done. The website of the NYSC does not even see to function properly even when you try to access it, for example when you try to download the NYSC DECREE which is a downloadable document all you will get is a message saying sorry file corupted and cannot be repaired! Is NYSC serious? Only in Nigeria that a programme focused on the youth can be operated on an analogue programme, imagine in this day and age of facebook and twitter!
There is also the problem of honesty on the part of NYSC, since the creation of of the NYSC, the rich Nigerians have always found a way to manipulate the posting of their children to lucrative states and jobs. These days, their children do not even smell those dishelvelled campuses where the children of the poor play at being "undergraduates". They are all abroad studying in real universities!

Terror alert: unknown soldier squad gives federal government 3 weeks ultimatum

A faceless group calling itself the Unknown Soldier Squad (USS) network sent a threat email to a masterweb writer, has given Nigerian federal government a three weeks ultimatum. In a comment post made on july 5, the group gave the federal government to convene a sovereign national conference or face terror of the land. The group wrote that if their deadline for a sovereign national conference is not met the country would witness terror on all fronts.
Why are all these terror organisations coming up at this time of our democracy, when a free and fair election took place in this country, then they should allow the president to deliver on his campaign promises.

Bauchi as police station was destroyed by boko haram

Bauchi – In what could be described as a revenge mission, just barely twelve hours after the police, yesterday, killed three suspected members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram,
in a gun duel at Unguwan Kaura, in Jahun ward of Bauchi state, gunmen suspected to be members of the group, Tuesday night, invaded Toro Divisional Police Station.
Vanguard gathered that the gunmen, numbering about five, stormed the station at about 8:00 pm, shooting sporadically into the air, causing panic not only among policemen on duty, but members of the public, in the neighbourhood, who scampered to safety.
When the gunmen entered the station, they met it empty as all the policemen on duty ran for dear lives, leaving behind their arms and other belongings.
It was further gathered that the gunmen ransacked the station, carting away guns and ammunition. They also freed the only suspect in the cell who was arrested on Sunday, for stealing a goat.
Our correspondent also learnt that the gunmen left behind a bag suspected to contain explosives at a spot between the police station and the Toro local government secretariat.
No casualty was recorded during the invasion as the hoodlums carried out their nefarious activities unchallenged.
When contacted the Bauchi state Police Public Relation’s officer, Mohammed Barau said he has ‘’no comment’’ as at the time of this report.

Maiduguri bomb blast

Three soldiers were injured Wednesday when a bomb hit a military checkpoint in the troubled northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri where attacks by suspected Islamist radicals have killed dozens, the army said.
The blast occurred early morning near a food market in a densely populated low-to-middle class neighbourhood in the heart of the city.
"Two men on motorcycle tossed the bomb at our men which exploded causing panic and fear in the neighbourhood," Brigadier-General Jack Okechukwu Nwaogbo, the commander of a recently deployed unit, told AFP by phone.
A resident, Mahmud Kumalaia said the bomb appeared to have been hidden in a food flask left close to the checkpoint.
"The bomb was concealed in a food container and kept at an open air eatery close to the checkpoint, disguised as food left by a food vendor," he said adding it went off with "a very loud blast and smoke enveloped the area."
"It is not clear if the bomb was timed or remote-controlled. I can't say if any soldiers died but it is evident many of them were injured.
After the attack, the explosion site was cordoned off and the city's main markets elsewhere were closed by security officials.
"The market has been shut down. I was turned back and told the market would not open today. Soldiers at checkpoints are firing sporadically into the air. It's quite scary,
Attacks have become an almost daily occurrence in the city, and they are claimed by or blamed on Boko Haram, an extremist sect that sprung up in 2004, drawing inspiration from the Afghan Taliban.
Two years ago, Boko Haram launched a short-lived armed uprising in a doomed bid to establish an Islamic state.
Although the rebellion was crushed in a military assault that killed hundreds, mostly sect members, it failed to deter further attacks.
In recent months the attacks have escalated.
Close to 50 people have been killed in the city since July 26 when more than two dozen people died in a single attack.
President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the deployment of a special force comprising hundreds of military, navy, air force, police, immigration and customs personnel to end the unrest.
The state security police this week said it had arrested more than 100 suspected militants in the north of the country, but that they were unlikely to be prosecuted.
Political leaders from three northern states have in recent days tendered apologies to the sect over their role in the brutal military crackdown on the Islamist sect in 2009.

A heavy explosion followed by bursts of sporadic gunfire hit Maiduguri, Wednesday, where a militant Islamist sect, Boko Haram has been waging a campaign of violence.
The blast, which appeared to come from the centre of the town, shattered windows in surrounding neighbourhoods shortly after 7 am (0600 GMT) and was followed by sporadic bursts of automatic gunfire, a Reuters witness and local residents said

Islamic banking, Non interest banking and religion in nigeria

What is Islamic banking?
Islamic banking or non interest banking focuses on the existence of a real and tangible asset. When money is rented for interest, the trade of money for anything except at par is not permissible as this form of banking is seen as exploitative to some of the parties in the transactions.
Universally world economies as part of a dynamic way of life promotes social interaction at the highest possible level, Islamic banking aims that wealth must be distributed in a way that earns pleasure to the one who provides it and prohibits its earnings like return on interest or sale of product and services that the one that provides the money doesn’t like.
Nigerians are very religious people and it plays an important part in their lives and in the quest for changes and reforms which when viewed more closely, that Nigerians constantly resists anything that will change that form of perception for them or that the reform or change may affect their religious beliefs.
Do you know that the concept of Islamic or non interest banking is not new in Nigeria? When Prof. Chukwuma Soludo was the governor of the central bank of Nigeria (CBN), he actually approved the non interest banking. The BOFIA Act 1991 as amended, section 9, 23 & 52 provides for the establishment of Islamic banking in Nigeria. As a result of the provision, the former Habib bank was given approval in 1992 to operate Islamic banking, which is still operational even after the merger with bank PHB.
Among countries that have embraced and are operating or in the stages of operating Islamic banking but not limited to this countries are South Africa, Dubai, UK, Japan and even China.
The principle of the non interest banking or Islamic banking is not limited to the following:
(1) Making interest on money is not allowed or accepted in non interest banking
Islamic banking sees money only as a medium of exchange, a way of defining value of a thing, just like “Trade by Barter”; the money has no value in itself and should therefore not be allowed to give rise to money.
(2) Islamic bank prohibits payment above the principal sum
Islamic banking allows for only one kind of loan whereby the lender or the Islamic bank does not charge any interest or additional amount over the sum of money lent.
(3) The borrower and the lender shares in the profit and loss of the business venture
Islamic banking encourages Muslims or other people to invest their money and to also become partners in the business in order to share the profit and risk instead of becoming creditors only.
(4) The lender or borrower in Islamic banking support only product and services that are not forbidden
Islamic banking will not invest in products and services that are prohibited in Islam such as financing alcoholic trade or services and investing in gambling activities. Any transaction entered into by the bank should be free from uncertainty and or speculation. Parties to a business venture in Islamic banking cannot predetermine guaranteed profit. This is based on the “Principle of Uncertain Gains”
Having X-rayed some of the bellying factors on Islamic banking; the people of Nigeria deserve to be educated on the principles, practice and use of the Islamic banking in Nigeria in order for them to know the Advantages and disadvantages of this kind of banking. Some of the fears that is been entertained is somehow seen to be sectional but is based on constructive critism on the issue.
This teething phase will pass and we shall see what this kind of banking holds for us, but what does the president of Nigeria think on this issue? As at the time of going online the president Dr Goodluck Jonathan has not said anything on the issue, that is if it is in line with his policies in this dispensation and the cashless society policy.

boko haram threats on the nigerian people

The meaning of “Boko Haram” means getting “western education is a sin”, lately the Boko Haram have intensified terror on the Nigerian people. Their attacks have greatly intensified in the last nine months, hardest hit are public places which we have seen these past fews days and month like public areas, nightclubs, bars and relaxation areas that depicts or portrays western style of living or standard.
There have been frantic efforts by the security personnel in the country to curtail their bomb scare and to try to protect the populace, "These measures are necessitated by the need to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the federal capital territory.

The high profile attack on the police headquarters in Abuja on June 16 was reported to have killed eight innocent people.

This was followed by an attack at a beer garden in Borno state that killed 25 people.

Some security analysts, after a reassessment of Boko Haram's capacity, believe the radical Islamist group is receiving training from outside Nigeria.
Security sources have alleged that Boko Haram fighters are traveling to Somalia, Afghanistan and other areas for training on how to make explosives and other dangerous weapons.
However, this claim is yet to be officially corroborated by the Nigerian police authorities.

Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow the government- by fighting political and social activity associated with the West, with an aim of creating an Islamic state.

Reportedly influenced by the Koranic phrase which says: "Anyone who is not governed by what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors," Boko Haram seeks to prevent Nigerians from voting, wearing shirts and trousers or receiving a secular education which is a farce in this day and age.

Conflict resolution analysts in the country advocate for dialogue and negotiations but Boko Haram has shown little interest in dialogue and amnesty.
